Can you correct another person's child?

I posted about this once before, but didn't get too many replies. Today I received an email with a link to BabyCenter and it had a great article I'd like to share on how to handle somebody else's child when they are being rude. I take my daughter to our local Children's museum weekly and we run into a lot of rude kids. It's hard to know what to do when they act up around my daughter and a parent either says nothing, or acts like it's no big deal. So I'm very happy I found this article.

What is wrong with Schools today???

I just can't believe all the stuff going on with schools today. For example, my almost 6 year old niece takes the bus to and from her preschool. My sister was waiting for her at the bus stop the other day and the bus driver pulled up, and kept going! Didn't stop to let my niece off. My sister hobbled (she's been on crutches for 3 months now) into the house and called the school, who contacted the driver, who turned around and dropped her off. WHAT??? No wonder kids get left on buses all day. I think he said there were to "Olivia's" on the bus and he got confused or something. Why is he a bus driver then?

Then, the same day, my same nieces friend (about 6 years old) had fallen off the monkey bars at school. These are apparently old monkey bars where many kids have been hurt before. Why they don't remove them is beyond me, or at least put some recycled tires under them for softness instead of the dirt or concrete they have. Anyway, she had fallen off and was crying pretty hard. The teacher had told her she was ok and not to worry about it. She cried the rest of the day and when the bus dropped her off, her mom heard her crying on the bus and asked her what happened. She said she fell off the monkey bars and her words "mommy, why does the bus driver had to drive so slow, I just wanted to go home faster". They took her to the hospital where they told her she had a broken bone and is now in a cast. WHAT???? Doesn't a teacher know that when a six year old falls off something as high as monkey bars, then cries the rest of the school day and doesn't stop, that SOMETHING is wrong???

The parents were going up to the school to talk to them and I haven't heard what happened.

When my 20 month old daughter starts school, I am going to be that parent that is asking questions, stopping in class, contacting the teacher constantly. I plan on talking to each of her teachers and letting them know that THEY are responsible for my childs health and safety while in their care and I expect to be notified if anything happens. I will leave my all contact phone numbers for her and expect a call immediately from her. I don't know if that will help, but I'd rather have a teacher know how to contact me and that I want to be contacted right away if anything occurs. Guess I have 5 or 6 years to get to this point anyway. LOL

My new toy!

I got a fun new toy for me, Uhhh.... I mean..... for my daughter. hehehehe I was out looking for a cheap dog bed and went to Big Lots. I found this Fisher Price stand n' sit stroller for just $99. It didn't have a box but was brand new and had instructions and tags attached. I had to have it!
I love it and it will be great for any new siblings that come along. Yipeee! I found one on Amazon.com for $299.00!!!! But other sites had them for $130 - $150.00 so I think $99 is a steal!

Fun idea for a big cardboard box!

Here is a fun idea to use if you have a big box and a Laugh and Learn house! My daughter loves to play in this "house"... add a few pillows and blankets and it's a great place to hideout. If you don't have the Laugh and Learn house, just duct tape some old curtains or fabric to the front as doors. A flashlight is a great item for this activity also!

When strangers kids act up.....What do you do??

I just got a season pass to our Children's Museum and I've been taking my 19-1/2 month old there regularly. It's great and she loves it! Today I was there and some kid, maybe 4 or 5, chucked a ball at my eye! On purpose! It was no accident! I was helping my daughter load up a bucket with these balls and this kid tossed one next to me and I looked at him. Then I bent over again to help her and "BAM" he chucked one right at my eye! I looked at him and said "Oww don't throw that at me it hurts" and he just sat there. No parent around to say anything, or at least they didn't see it.

Then some other kid came running over to where my daughter was trying to sit on this little push car and she jumped right on it! My daughter said "nnoooooooooo" and looked at me for help. I didn't know what to do! Luckily there was another one close by and I got that one for my daughter. I'm a wimp and couldn't tell this kid to get up and go get another one. UGH. I need to get better at defending my daughters play area if I'm going to be taking her around other kids more often!

Any advice on how to deal with strangers kids in public would be greatly appreciated!!! I can use the help.

Ohhhh Savannah! (And it's not the song I'm referring to)

You know the song "Oh Suzanna, now don't you cry for me......" Well I find myself saying "Ohhh Savannah..." all day! lol I somehow always forget that my 19-1/2 month old can reach everything up on the counter these days! I should have saved this picture for "wordless Wednesdays" but I am a day late and a million dollars short! I heard the "wooooossshhhhhing " of the cereal coming out of the box and I yelled "nnnoooooooooooooo" as I was running to get to her, but it was too late. There she sat, with her pile of Lucky Charms, picking the marshmallows out of the middle. At least she went for the ones on the top of the pile and not the ones touching the floor!

Hubby update...

So the surgery took 5 hours and he did alright. He can move his legs which was his big fear going into back surgery. They removed a disk, put in spacers, fused it with some genetic bone and used bone marrow from his hip to help it fuse/heal. He's 2 hours away from me so I have to drive back and forth between him and my daughter... which is hard. I don't always have someone to watch my daughter so I can't go everday. Not sure when he'll be home... maybe next week... but I hope sooner.

Husbands Back Surgery day....

So I'm sitting here in the hospital, 2 hours away from our home and tired had heck! My husbands surgery was suppose to be at 10:30am and we were suppose to be here at 7:30am. We got a call last night that surgery was moved up to 9:30am so to be here at 6:30am. That meant leaving the house at 4am (which meant getting up at 3:12am!).

We got here and waited in the pre-op. I noticed the board said his surgery time was 10:30am, which I of course questioned. They had no idea that someone called us and said it would be an hour early. Ok, fine, we'll take 10:30am if we have to. OH NO.... surgery didn't start until 11:49am!!! And we were the surgeons first patient so I don't know what the hold up was from 9:30 or even 10:30. I'm tired. I want to sleep. I have to drive back tonight so I can put my little precious baby to bed b/c I haven't seen her since last night. My mom came over to be there when she woke up and stay with her all day. I'm hoping I can be there to put her to bed but I don't know. I miss her so much. I've never been away from her this long (I'm weird I know). And she seems to be doing fine without me too. She was laughing in the background and having fun. She's only 19 months old by the way.

Oh well... so far it's been 3hours and 21 minutes into surgery. I'm HOPING it's the 4hour window and that I'm not here another 2 or 3 hours... but I guess as long as they do their job right I can't complain. They did update me and say all was going OK so thank the Lord for that.

Husband having back surgery

My hubby is having back surgery out of town on Tuesday the 19th. He's in the military and has been having back problems for 3 years! So now it's time to try to fix it. It's about 2 hours away and I can't take my 19 month old to sit in the hospital all day obviously. So my mom (who happens to live next door, very convenient) will be watching her. We have to be to the hospital at 7:30am so will leave about 4:30am to make sure we get there. My mom will come over and sleep until my little one wakes up and then watch her all day. I've never left her with anyone all day, ever! Not even my mom. I'm nervous how she'll be when she wakes up to my mom and having my mom feed her breakfast, lunch and dinner and try to do nap time! Nap time around her is not the usual nap time! lol I am hoping to be back by 8:30 or 9:00pm so I can put her to bed, because that's a whole different routine. I can't predict what the day will hold though and am hoping the surgery goes well, is short and he gets out of recovery so I can see him and drive back home. As for the rest of the week, I'm not sure what will happen. I'll visit him and leave my daughter with my mom and then drive back home, probably not everyday, but he'll only be in for maybe 5 days to a week anyway. Then I'll be driving him home to recover for a few months and wait on him hand and foot! I bet those will be some good future blog post. :)

Blog Name Change!

I think I'm going to be changing the name of my blog to "Wife of a W.O.W Addict"! Anyone else have a husband addicted to W.O.W (World Of Warcraft). In case you don't know what it is, it's a computer game that you get online and fight other people for pretend money so you can buy new things for your character and get to a higher level. And it's not a free addiction either.

My husband was on the computer for EIGHT HOURS the other day!! No lie. He started about 12:30 or 1pm and didn't get off until we got in an argument about it at 9PM. I even thought that when dinner came, he was actually getting off, or at least going to eat with us. He got up, fixed a plate and took it into the computer and sat there and played while he ate. I guess I know about addictions, I'm addicted to Photoshop, but I have never been on for eight hours straight. I have to get off to feed the baby, play with the baby, bathe the baby, clean up after the baby... all the mommy stuff we have to do. But when she naps I get on and when she's in bed I get on.

I guess being addicted W.O.W is better than being addicted to strip clubs or something far worse! And at least I know where he is and can see him and peek over his shoulder. So I shouldn't complain that much. But when your hubby would rather play a computer game than have some "time" with his wife, there is a serious problem. :)

Tackling bills!

Today I'm tackling the bills! I am going to try to pay them all at once or at least get the checks ready to mail later. I hate this time of the month. Not only for the obvious reason of losing your money, but it is time consuming. I try to pay bills online when I can, but sometimes I can't remember the passwords and user ID's so I end up writing a check. I had a list of the passwords but as usual, misplaced it.

I bought one of those organizer books that you can keep track of all your bills last December... it's still sitting in the same place as the day I got it! I never use those and I don't know why I bought it. I have started a new system though to try to remember to pay the bills. I just staple all the statements together for the month and put a big pink check mark on the ones I've paid so I know I did it. Easy and simple, now I need to figure out who to give the bill organizer book to. LOL

Car rides, kids, fighting and GAMES!

I went out with my sister the other day and her 5 and 6 year old were arguing and poking each other in the back seat. So to keep them busy I had them play a car game and look for 5 of a certain color car. First it was green, but there were so many green cars it ended quickly. I had no idea how many people owned green cars! So we made it 5 yellow cars, which was harder. They only found 2 before we got home and were going to continue the game on the next car ride.

I got to thinking of other things to look for besides cars and I came up with this list for the next car ride with kids:

-Flags (that aren't American flags, more like novelty, sports, spring, etc flags)
-For Sale Signs in front yards
-Two toned cars
-Someone riding a bike
-Construction machines (dump truck, etc)
-Garbage truck
-Pizza delivery car
-Ambulance
-Soda delivery truck
-Billboard with an certain pic on it (eg: animal, food, etc)

Now this list will depend on the age of the kids as well as where your driving and how hard you want the game to be. Obviously some of these you won't see on a highway, but you may see on a trip to the store or school. And some may be much harder to find b/c you don't always see Soda delivery trucks as you would a flag.

Kids, Summer, Garbage and GORILLAS!

Lastnight I had the best time with my 3 nieces, 1 nephew and stepson. My sister came over to grill out and let the kids swim. I don't have a pool, but my mom does and she lives next door, how convenient! My nieces and nephew are ages 6 - 12 and my stepson is 13. Games were played all day and night and then my hubby decided he'd get out our gorilla suit from Halloween. He put it on and scared the heck out of the kids while they played hide and seek! They jumped, screamed, ran, laughed and then tried to beat him up. hehehehe

Well of course the all had to wear the costume after that. My 12 year old nephew put the suit on, now mind you it's an adult size suit and about 10:30 pm. They stood out front as cars went by in the suit to see what they would do. Then my nephew decided on his own to take out the garbage can in the gorilla suit while a car drove by. It may not sound that funny now, but I was laughing so hard, well, lets just say when you've had a baby your bladder isn't that good!! LOL I can only imagine what those people in the car were thinking as they drove by a 4'-5" gorilla taking the garbage out at 10:30 pm in the middle of July!!! LOL We were all hiding so the cars couldn't see us. 35 years old and hiding from cars playing pranks.... I guess I miss my childhood sometimes! I was hoping someone wouldn't call the cops. I can just see explaining it to them.

I posted a pic of the suit, but this isn't my nephew in it! It's just a pic of the suit from the online store we bought it from. I just love kids!

Today.... Laundry, Garbage.

My 13 year old stepson is in town and my husband too! He's in the Army and stationed out of town, so usually it's just my daughter and I. Well they are both in town and my normal routines are all mixed up. Even with two boys in the house, I still do it all. I am constantly cleaning up after them even though I remind them to pick up their garbage and food so the baby doesn't get it. When morning comes I'm chasing the baby down to try to get something she swiped that she shouldn't have.

My husband is teaching his son to do his own laundry, so that is GREAT! Because I've never met anyone who goes through so many clothes a day! I would do his laundry and before I had it cleaned and folded, there would be a big pile of dirty clothes to wash! It's amazing. Since he's doing it himself, he asked yesterday if he should wear the same shorts that he wore the day before! LOL That's because he knew he'd have more laundry to do if he put them in the dirty pile. He'd only worn them 1/2 the day and sat around the house in them, so they weren't dirty anyway. He's learning!

Today, I need to do my daughters and my own laundry. It's also garbage night and for two days my husband said he would get the 3 huge bags of garbage sitting in the kitchen and take them out. They are still there. SO I'm going to go take it all out and to the curb, which I'm sure will start an argument today! LOL
